The mouse likes our house, it’s the first home she has ever had. We are welcoming, but never intrusive or even directly engaging (a little difficult for me given my tendency towards exuberant ejaculations, but I’m learning to be gentle again). She needs calm and supportive people around her and it seems like she believes she has found that in us. We still make mistakes – the slightest direct eye contact or ANY changes to the schedule make her very, very apprehensive – but she is more forgiving now that she knows we are trying. So far, so good. No baring of teeth. Plenty of smiles from a distance. The outlines of a gift are being drawn.
